"That’s A Big One!" (An Unexpected Catch)
Martin goes ice fishing and catches something unexpected.
Story: In early 2010 we were out on the lake, and I had my camera with me while Martin fished. One of us mentioned that it would be nice to have a "Big One", which is what we call the Grandiosa Pan Pizza Classic, even though they stopped calling it that here in Sweden years ago. Since I am a CG artist and animator, I quickly put 2 and 2 together and decided it would be too funny not to try what you see in this video.
Martin simply acted with nothing in front of him, nothing on his line (he tugged it) and then again pretended to cook a non existent pizza over the fire. I created the pizza by taking a high resolution photo of one I bought myself, and using it to texture a 3d model I sculpted.
Then, to create the fish flapping like movements, I created morphs and adjusted them in various combinations. Splashes were composited in, timing adjusted and I erased the jig from some frames manually in Photoshop.
After carefully lighting and animating, to complete the effect I motion tracked the pizza layer to the shot footage, added a bit of smoke over top, and did some audio work.

This was just some fun practice for us based on a simple idea Elin came up with in early 2008. There are plenty of things we’d have done better but it is just a fan animation. Soon we will be releasing an episode of our very own show which you can see a very short teaser for at the end of the video. It is more akin to animes like Wolf’s Rain, Berserk, or Cowboy Bebop than to Naruto, though. If you’re interested in checking that out then subscribe now!
